Seagate Exos enterprise hard drives

Seagate's Exos family is the reference nearline platform for data-centre bulk storage, NAS and backup targets. The drives we quote most often are CMR (conventional magnetic recording), helium-sealed 3.5-inch models rated for 24/7 duty and a stated annual workload.

Before you specify Exos

Confirm the recording technology (CMR vs SMR), the workload rating and the interface suffix of the part number. A SAS backplane accepts SATA drives, but a SATA backplane never accepts SAS. If the drives go into a branded array, send the array model — NetApp, Dell EMC and HPE validate drive firmware and can reject non-OEM disks even when the base part number matches.
